Heaven’s Gate Seeks Clothing
Éigse, Carlow’s arts festival gets underway next month and they’ve got a call out for their Heaven’s Gate project. The project, an ambitious one at that, has involved the creation of an 1890′s mid-western barn / skating ring which will be open to the public for use.
The project’s curator needs to get hold of 100 or so pieces of old-fashioned western clothing for the duration of the project.
So, if you’re involved in the arts or in youth theatre around Carlow and the surrounding counties and you’ve got access to some old-fashioned western clothing that you would be happy to loan the festival for 2-3 months, your costume could help people become part of the stage piece.
In particular, they’re on the look for bowler hats, boater hats, braces, old-fashioned women’s shirts (frilly, buttons, older patterns, etc), scarves that would have been suitable for tying around the head, and men’s (plain) shirts and waistcoats. The clothing would be used by people roller-skating on the stage-art piece and would need to be daily donned and taken off.
If you do think you can help, pop an email to info@eigse.com or call the Carlow Arts Office on 059 9170301 to find out how you can get your costume donations in (you will get them back at the end of the installation).
